Kristin Cocquyt
(pronounced “Coke – white”… it’s Flemish!)

My higher education – both in the classroom and within the college community – set the foundation for my life’s work. I chose to attend Hamilton College because my high school English teacher made the sage suggestion that it would be a good fit for me. It was, and after four years on “The Hill,” I graduated with a BA in Public Policy and a network of fellow future educators. I planned to become an education lobbyist, but my career path took a different turn during my senior year when my experience as an intern in the Hamilton College Admissions Office launched me into the ever-changing field of college admissions. I felt grateful for the myriad ways my college education impacted me intellectually, personally, and professionally and wanted to be part of the college selection journey for others.
After a few years growing as an Admissions Counselor at Gettysburg College, I decided to switch sides of the proverbial desk to cultivate my counseling skills as a school-based college counselor. Throughout my 15 years as a school-based college counselor (Assistant Director of College Counseling at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD and Director of College Counseling at Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, NY), I advised over 600 students and families through the college search and application process and visited over 200 colleges across the US and abroad. It is easy for me to see the good and the potential in all students and in all colleges. In addition to a bevy of professional development experiences and speaking engagements, I chose to complete Columbia University’s Continuing Professional Studies, Teachers College Online College Advising Program because of its focus on supporting students who are underrepresented on college campuses and students with high financial need. I am committed to college access for all students and am confident that there’s always a path to make college possible.
Moving into the consulting space has enabled me to be 100% devoted to college planning. Teenagers are my jam, and it’s thrilling to collaborate with them as they envision their life’s trajectory. My student-centered, fit-focused philosophy honors each student’s identity and goals and empowers families to make informed choices throughout the search and application process to ultimately make a wise college choice and investment.
